I’ve been reading a lot lately about word-of-mouth marketing. The theory is great: create a product or service that creates evangelists who spread the wonderfulness of you free of charge.

That got me to thinking about the most successful word-of-mouth promotional campaigns in history. I narrowed the options to two:

Google and Christianity
